Anderson is a central Indiana city that serves as the county seat of Madison County. As of 2010, Anderson has a population of approximately 56,129 people. Settlers who first arrived in Anderson referred to the village as Anderson Town. In 1844, the Indiana legislature shortened the name to Anderson. Now, the city is named in honor of Chief William Anderson.

There are many notable attractions located in Anderson. The city is home to a beautiful downtown area that provides individuals glimpses into the city’s rich past. There are many fine dining establishments, cultural activities, and a growing retail market located in Downtown Anderson. Also located in Anderson is Hoosier Park, a horse racing track and casino. Hoosier Park serves as a place of leisure for individuals both visiting and living in Anderson. History enthusiasts will find Anderson to be of interest due to the many places located in the city listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Downtown Anderson, Paramount Theatre, the Anderson Bank Building, and the Gruenewald House are a few of the places listed on the NRHP.
